Coinciding with National Architecture Day, the Director-General of Civil Aviation at the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia uploaded information about airports with the most unique architecture. The following is a list of these airports.
7 Airports with The Most Unique Architectural Designs in Indonesia
1. Buntu Kunik Airport
Buntu Kunik Airport, located in Tana Toraja Regency, North Sulawesi, has an architectural design that is influenced by the local wisdom of the Tana Toraja traditional house, namely Tongkonan.
2. Sultan M. Kaharuddin Airport
Sultan M. Kaharuddin Airport is located in Sumbawa Besar Regency, West Nusa Tenggara. It has a hexagonal architectural design that resembles a honeycomb. This design depicts Sumbawa, which is well-known for its honey production.
3. Mopah Airport
Mopah Airport is located in Merauke City, Papua. The cassowary bird, an endemic species of Papua, inspired the design of the Mopah Airport passenger terminal building.
4. Domine Eduard Osok Airport
Domine Eduard Osok Airport is located in Sorong City, West Papua. The exterior of the airport passenger terminal building is designed to resemble a betel nut which reflects one of the main commodities of Sorong City.
5. Tjilik Riwut Airport
Tjilik Riwut Airport, located in Palangka Raya City, Central Kalimantan, has a unique terminal design with a modern white feel. The roof of the building was inspired by the beak of a Central Kalimantan hornbill.
6. Minangkabau Airport
Minangkabau Airport is located in Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra. It is an earthquake-resistant airport with a focus on environmentally friendly structures. It also features a typical Minangkabau traditional house architectural design, Rumah Gadang.
7. Ngloram Airport
Ngloram Airport, located in Blora Regency, Central Java, is built with strong pillars and a roof inspired by teak trees. The lush teak forest typical of Blora is depicted in this architectural design.
