Juanda Airport reconstruction project using cast iron gratings for the drainage system. We also discuss about the gratings installation process on the airport drainage channel.
Juanda Airport is an international airport located in Sidoarjo, 20 km south of Surabaya, East Java. This airport occupies the second position as the busiest airport in Indonesia based on aircraft and passenger movements after Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
Juanda International Airport has a 3 km long runway and a terminal area of 51,500 m². With this area, Juanda Airport is estimated to be able to accommodate 13 million-16 million passengers and 120,000 tons of cargo every year.
As one of the busiest airports in Indonesia, of course, the Juanda Airport management continues to improve facilities to compensate for this. Then in 2020, the manager of Juanda Airport has improved the airport apron.
One of the works carried out in the Juanda Airport apron reconstruction project is making and repairing the drainage system. Then to support the function of the drainage system, they use drainage components consisting of cast iron manhole covers and cast iron gratings.
Juanda Airport Grating Installation Process
You can see the installation of cast iron gratings at Juanda Airport in this video:
Juanda Airport Grating use cast iron gratings that have a size 1000x800x100 mm and weight 164-205 kg / unit. These gratings have heavy-duty specifications, made from FC 300 material, which is top grade of cast iron. We also design this airport gratings to be able to withstand loads of up to 30 tons. However, during the load testing process, this airport gratings can withstand loads of up to 43 tons without any visual damage.
Cast iron grating serves as a cover for open drainage channels. In addition, the grating also functions as a bridge so that no one falls into the drainage channel. For how to install it, we install airport gratings in rows along the drainage channel. This drainage channel is between the apron and the runway.
The aircraft does not pass the gratings at Juanda Airport. However, the vehicles that pass through the gratings are refueling vehicles, airplane push-back cars, passenger delivery cars, and delivery cars.
