Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) is a project to revitalize an existing oil refinery in order to increase its capacity. In Indonesia, there are five RDMP projects, one of which is in Balikpapan. Mekar Sari, Central Balikpapan, Balikpapan City, East Kalimantan is the site of the Balikpapan RDMP project. Are you interested in knowing more about this project? The facts about the Balikpapan RDMP project are as follows.
1. Including “national strategic projects”
There were projects considered strategic to increase economic growth, equitable development, and people’s welfare during President Joko Widodo’s administration. These are known as “national strategic projects.”
The Balikpapan RDMP project aims to boost national energy independence in eastern Indonesia, including the new capital city of Indonesia.
2. RDMP Balikpapan is Indonesia’s largest refinery
According to Djoko Priyono, the Main Director of PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI), the Balikpapan RDMP project will be the largest refinery in Indonesia, displacing the Cilacap refinery. The Cilacap refinery has a capacity of 345,000 barrels per day in terms of output. Meanwhile, the Balikpapan refinery will be capable of producing 360,000 barrels of oil per day.
3. The Balikpapan RDMP is a $7 billion project
The next fact is that the investment value of the Balikpapan RDMP project exceeds US$ 7 billion, or approximately IDR 100 trillion. The Balikpapan RDMP is supported by Pertamina’s equity or cash funds, project financing, and the cooperation of equity partners.
4. Produce both fuel and non-fuel products
RDMP Balikpapan manufactures diesel, Pertamax, Pertalite, Pertadex, and Avtur. All of these fuels will be Euro 5 compliant, with sulfur levels no higher than 10 ppm.
RDMP Balikpapan produces non-fuel products such as Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and propylene, which are raw materials for plastics in addition to environmentally friendly fuel.
5. Use cast iron manhole covers
Every structure, including this RDMP project, must have a drainage channel. Drainage channels drain rainwater quickly, preventing puddles from forming in the area. There are holes in the drainage channel for staff access when cleaning and maintaining. For added security, the hole is then covered with a manhole cover.
The Balikpapan RDMP project uses heavy-duty cast iron manhole covers with three different load capacities: 7 tons, 13 tons, and 25 tons. There are two types of manhole covers: square frames and round lids and round frames and round lids.
The frame size for a square frame design with a round lid is 655x655x50 mm, with a lid diameter of 600 mm. Then there’s the frame, which measures 710x710x50 mm and has a 610 mm lid diameter.
In the Balikpapan RDMP project area, the manhole covers are used to cover existing road drainage channels. Manhole cover locations are on the side of the road, and some are in the middle of the road.
Those are the facts
Above are five facts about the Balikpapan RDMP project that you need to know. It is hoped that this project will meet Indonesia’s domestic fuel needs.
