Did you know that Indonesia has the same Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque as the United Arab Emirates? Yes, but not as large as in the UAE. This mosque is located in Surakarta, also known as Solo. Want to know more about Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Solo? Below is the full discussion.
1. A gift from the Prince of the UAE for President Joko Widodo
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Solo was a gift from the Prince of the United Arab Emirates Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The construction of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Solo is also a form of cooperation and friendship between the two countries, namely Indonesia and Arab countries, especially in the Islamic field.
2. Middle Eastern Architectural Design
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Solo was built at the Prince of the UAE’s request and is similar to the one in Abu Dhabi, albeit smaller in size. The material should not be chosen arbitrarily. For instance, the marble used was imported directly from Italy.
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Solo has one main dome, small domes, four minarets, and Middle Eastern architectural ornaments. This mosque has two floors and includes a VIP room, library, and ablution area in the basement.
3. Multifunctional
The mosque is expected to be the largest mosque in Solo. The presence of this mosque can also be added to the list of religious tourism destinations. An Islamic Center was built around the mosque complex, which includes Al-Quran Education Places, Madrasahs, Al-Qur’an interpretation, and a place for Sharia Economic Development.
4. The land area exceeds 3 hectares
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque was constructed on a site larger than 3 hectares in size, with a building area of approximately 8,400 square meters and a capacity of 12,000 worshipers. The parking area is approximately 3,500 square meters in size and can accommodate hundreds of vehicles, both two-wheeled, four-wheeled, and more.
5. Use Infiniferro’s drainage grating and tree grating
Cast iron gratings were used in the construction of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Solo. The tree grating has a diameter of 600 mm and a custom design with two holes on the sides used for lampposts.
This tree grating is used to cover the tree planting area with soil so that people do not step on it.
Aside from tree gratings, this mosque project makes use of cast iron drainage gratings of eight different types.
- Type 1: 1000x300x30 mm and 574x300x30 mm dimensions
- Type 2: 1000x300x30 mm and 220x300x30 mm dimensions
- Type 3: 1000x300x30 mm and 405x300x30 mm dimensions
- Type 4: 1000x300x30 mm and 305x300x30 mm dimensions
- Type 5: 1000x300x30 mm and 360x300x30 mm dimensions
- Type 6: 1000x300x30 mm and 438x300x30 mm dimensions
- Type 7: 1000x300x30 mm and 360x300x30 mm dimensions
- Type 8: 1000x300x30 mm and 860x300x30 mm dimensions
These cast iron gratings serve as a cover for drainage channels in the mosque area, ensuring that nothing falls into the drainage channels. The grating’s hole design allows rainwater to enter, allowing the water to recede quickly and preventing puddles.
