Finally, Indonesia has its first subway, the Jakarta MRT (Mass Rapid Transit). On March 24, 2019, President Joko Widodo inaugurated the Jakarta MRT project. After the inauguration, Jakarta MRT operates non-commercially. Then begin commercial operation on April 1, 2019.
Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) is one of the fast transportation modes using an electric train. This mode of transportation is often a solution to reduce congestion in big cities. Therefore, the Indonesian Government carried out an MRT development project in Jakarta. Want to know more about this project? Here we provide facts about the Jakarta MRT.
Development Progress
The phase I Jakarta MRT construction project began on October 10, 2013. At that time there was the laying of the first stone as a marker for the commencement of the MRT project by Jakarta Governor. The Indonesian government targets the Jakarta MRT to operate in early 2019.
Seven Elevated Station
Part of the construction of the Jakarta MRT is an elevated structure for approximately 10 km. The elevated structure type uses a single pier at the bottom and precast concrete box girder at the top. The elevated stations of Jakarta MRT are:
- Lebak Bulus
- Fatmawati
- Cipete Raya
- Haji Nawi
- Blok A
- Blok M
- Sisingamangaraja
Six Underground Stations
In addition to elevated construction, the Jakarta MRT project also has underground construction in the form of tunnels and underground stations with a length of approximately 6km. The underground construction works using the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) method. The underground stations of Jakarta MRT are:
- Senayan
- Istora
- Bendungan Hilir
- Setiabudi
- Dukuh Atas
- Bundaran Hotel Indonesia
Railways Supporting Infrastructure
Jakarta MRT Company is committed to providing the best service both in terms of infrastructure and facilities to the public as prospective passengers. Therefore, they prepares international standart services and uses the latest railway infrastructure. Thus it is expected to provide a sense of security, comfort, and reliability.
Railway system consists of the following 10 subsystems:
- Substation System
- Overheat Contact System
- Power Distribution System
- Signaling System
- Telecommunication System
- Facility SCADA
- Automattic Fare Collection System
- Platform Screen Doors
- Escalator and Elevator
- Trackwork
Project Funding
The funds for the Jakarta MRT project come from the Indonesian Government, the Provincial Government of Jakarta and loan funds from the Japanese Government through JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency).
Infiniferro’s Role on the Jakarta MRT Project
The Jakarta MRT construction project uses cast iron manhole cover from Infiniferro for the drainage system on the MRT line. The cast iron manhole covers are square. We make it from ductile iron material which is high grade cast iron.
Ductile iron (FCD) material has more advantages than cast iron material (FC) including: stronger than cast iron material (FC), not easily cracked or broken, and has good machining capabilities.
Manhole Cover Design for Jakarta MRT Project
Cast iron manhole cover for Jakarta MRT Project consists of two designs: square frame-round cover and square frame-square cover manhole cover.
In terms of strength, cast iron manhole covers for the MRT project consist of light-duty, medium-duty, and heavy-duty classes. Light-duty manhole covers type is used in the MRT project area which is not passed by any vehicles. Medium-duty manhole covers type is used in project areas where there are light to medium load vehicles passing. While the heavy-duty manhole covers type is used in the project area that is passed by heavy load vehicles.
One of the cast iron manhole covers for the Jakarta MRT Project has a round cover and square frame design. This design is the best manhole covers design. Manhole covers have high resistance so that it is suitable if used in locations where heavy load vehicles are passed.
The frame of manhole covers designed with holes on the side, its function is to get the concrete into the holes so that it will strengthen the installation of the manhole cover. In addition, when vehicles
Besides the manhole covers are also designed with hinges to unite the frame and cover. Using hinges, the frame and cover will not separate. The function of this hinges is very useful if you install the manhole covers in a less secure public area.
