Jakarta MRT Project, The First Indonesian Subway

Finally, Indonesia has its first subway, the Jakarta MRT (Mass Rapid Transit). On March 24, 2019, President Joko Widodo inaugurated the Jakarta MRT project. After the inauguration, Jakarta MRT operates non-commercially. Then begin commercial operation on April 1, 2019.

Development Progress

The phase I Jakarta MRT construction project began on October 10, 2013. At that time there was the laying of the first stone as a marker for the commencement of the MRT project by the Jakarta Governor. The Indonesian government targets the Jakarta MRT to operate in early 2019.

Seven Elevated Station

Part of the construction of the Jakarta MRT is an elevated structure of approximately 10 km. The elevated structure type uses a single pier at the bottom and a precast concrete box girder at the top. The elevated stations of Jakarta MRT are:

Six Underground Stations

In addition to elevated construction, the Jakarta MRT project also has underground construction in the form of tunnels and underground stations with a length of approximately 6km. The underground construction works using the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) method. The underground stations of Jakarta MRT are:

Railways Supporting Infrastructure

Project Funding

The funds for the Jakarta MRT project come from the Indonesian Government, the Provincial Government of Jakarta and loan funds from the Japanese Government through JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency).

The Jakarta MRT construction project uses cast iron manhole cover from Infiniferro for the drainage system on the MRT line. The cast iron manhole covers are square. We make it from ductile iron material which is high-grade cast iron.

Manhole Cover Design for Jakarta MRT Project

The cast iron manhole cover for the Jakarta MRT Project consists of two designs: square frame-round cover and square frame-square cover manhole cover.

In terms of strength, cast iron manhole covers for the MRT project consist of light-duty, medium-duty, and heavy-duty classes. Light-duty manhole covers are used in the MRT project area which is not passed by any vehicles. Medium-duty manhole covers are used in project areas where there are light to medium-load vehicles passing. While the heavy-duty manhole cover type is used in the project area that is passed by heavy-load vehicles.

One of the cast iron manhole covers for the Jakarta MRT Project has a round cover and square frame design. This is the best manhole cover design. Manhole covers are highly resistant, so they are suitable for use in locations where heavy-load vehicles are passed.

The frame of manhole covers is designed with holes on the side, its function is to get the concrete into the holes so that it will strengthen the installation of the manhole cover. In addition, when vehicles pass through the manhole covers there will be no shock if the frame is firmly installed.

Besides the manhole covers are also designed with hinges to unite the frame and cover. Using hinges, the frame and cover will not separate. The function of these hinges is very useful if you install the manhole covers in a less secure public area.
