A rain gutter system is an artificial water channel that functions to capture and direct rainwater or snowmelt so that it can flow to other places such as rivers or the sea. Rainwater gutter systems in homes usually operate by channeling water that falls on the roof and drips over the edge and then directs it to the drain. This drain will move water to the drainage system which will then be transmitted to the surrounding environment. Generally, there are 2 types of gutters in urban environments, namely open gutters and covered gutters. Check out the following article.
Covered gutter
Covered gutters are gutters whose top is covered with bars as a cover. This grate is a simple form of above-ground drainage which is usually installed to cover water channels on the side of the road. This type of gutter usually cannot be cleaned by a regular street sweeper. Because it is closed, it must be cleaned regularly to ensure there are no foreign objects or leaves that could clog the gutter.
This rain gutter system is usually widely used in urban areas because it does not block the road, pedestrians and cyclists can also pass safely because it is covered by a gutter cover. For covered gutters, there are usually 3 types of materials that are traditionally used, including concrete, cast iron, and FRP composite.

Open Gutters
Open gutters may normally drain more water than closed gutters since they are deeper. Open gutters are typically quite wide since they are used to drain enormous amounts of water. The building of open gutters must be carefully studied because without a cover, it will undoubtedly pose a risk to road users. Maintenance is also required because being open allows foreign things to enter the gutters more easily.
Gutters with covers and open gutters both require good and proper maintenance. For covered gutters, of course the maintenance carried out for each type of gutter is also different depending on the material. So, the selection of these two rain gutter systems certainly takes into account various aspects so that road users or pedestrians can feel safe.
