The Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport Makassar (SHIAM) development project is an absolute solution that must be carried out by Angkasa Pura Airports to overcome the problem of lack of capacity. The ideal capacity of the Makassar Sultan Hasanuddin Airport terminal can only accommodate 7 million passengers per year. Meanwhile, in 2019, the Sultan Hasanuddin Airport traffic in Makassar has reached 10.7 million passengers. They target this project to be completed in October 2021.
The development of Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport Makassar includes expansion on the landside and airside. The landside includes the existing domestic passenger terminal to the south side, parking building, and access to the main terminal road. While on the airside, namely the construction of the south apron and east apron along with supporting infrastructure.
The existing terminal was expanded from 51,815 square meters to 144,480 square meters. From a capacity of 7 million passengers per year to 15.5 million passengers per year. In addition, it also increases the apron capacity from 34 parking stands to 37 parking stands. The project value for the terminal expansion is Rp 2.6 trillion. As for the apron expansion, the project value is Rp 464.2 billion.
The development of airports in Indonesia is a manifestation of Angkasa Pura Airports’ commitment to supporting air connectivity and regional development. The development of these areas, especially in Indonesia’s central and eastern regions, is still not optimally developed. The airport development also aims to improve services by prioritizing aviation safety and security standards.
Use of Cast Iron Gratings on the Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport Makassar Development Project
The development of the Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar uses cast iron drainage gratings. These gratings consist of 5 designs or sizes are:
- 1000 x 950 x 50 mm
- 715 x 950 x 50 mm
- 476 x 500 x 50 mm
- 550 x 500 x 50 mm
- 1000 x 500 x 50 mm
They installed the cast iron gratings in the drainage channel between the apron and the runway. Cast iron gratings are installed in rows along the drainage channel to cover the drainage channel and prevent objects or people from falling into the drainage channel. In addition, the gratings also function as a bridge because they can be run over by vehicles when passing through the drainage channel.
Gratings for Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport Makassar have a perforated design like cast iron channel gratings in general. The holes in the cast iron grating serve as a way for rainwater to enter the drainage channel so as not to cause puddles in the runway area.
