Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, has outlined the strategic plan for Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects. An expansion project that will make Dubai World Central (DWC) – Al Maktoum International Airport the largest airport in the world. Here are the things you need to know about this project.
Dubai, a city in the UAE which is undergoing intensive development, is currently ambitious to build the largest airport in the world. It is located in South Dubai or New Dubai and has six zones: Golf, Residential, Commercial, Dubai Logistics City (DLC), and Aviation City.
5x the size of the current airport
The new airport will be five times the size of the Dubai International Airport which is currently the world’s busiest airport for international traffic. The airport will have five parallel runways and be able to accommodate 400 aircraft gates. Later all operations at Dubai International Airport will be moved to the new airport in the coming years.
260 million passengers per year
Since its opening 14 years ago, Al Maktoum International has always been planned to become the airport with the largest passenger handling in the world. $35 Billion
The Al Maktoum International Airport expansion project is worth $35 billion. The project will position it as the best, largest and busiest air passenger terminal in the world. According to Dubai Airport CEO Paul Griffiths, the Middle East will become an increasingly important global hub with the expansion of mega-regional flights.
Advanced and sustainable technology
Not only is it the busiest airport, but the new airport is also designed to be the best in service and provide an experience for guests. Airport facilities are intelligently designed to provide comfort and efficiency.
Sustainability is also a key point in the airport project. Green building practices and renewable energy sources are incorporated into the airport’s design to reduce the environmental impact of increased operations on the ground.
The design of this airport terminal shows extensive green space within a spacious, dome-shaped open space. Meanwhile, outside, around the artificial lake and an oasis of green palm trees, there is a path leading to the building that winds in accordance with the UAE’s sustainable vision. Al Maktoum International Airport is the largest aviation project in the world which will become a global travel center and will absorb existing passenger traffic at DXB.
The new hub at Al Maktoum International Airport will make a substantial contribution to the country’s economy by attracting more visitors, investment, and business. DWC will encourage innovation, job creation, and improve welfare. This is in line with Dubai and the UAE’s vision for a diverse and sustainable economy. This project can stimulate growth in various sectors such as trade, tourism, and logistics, thereby reducing dependence on oil revenues
According to Dubai Civil Aviation Authority President and Emirates Group chief executive, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed, Al Maktoum International Airport is a “leap into the future” and will be a technologically advanced airport. The plan is that this airport terminal will be connected to the city via a new infrastructure network. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid, ruler of Dubai said that currently they are building new projects for future generations and ensuring stable sustainable development for future generations so that Dubai will become the world’s airport, city center, port, and new global center. Upgrading Al Maktoum International Airport is vital for Dubai to remain a regional transport and logistics hub.
Apart from being larger than Dubai International Airport, the expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport also aims to create an “airport city” so that the new city center can accommodate one million residents and can be connected to Dubai via transit and road networks. This airport project is estimated to take 10 years. So, let’s see how magnificent the largest airport in the world will be in 10 years.
