Still on the topic of manhole cover. This time, we’ll discuss about the dimensions of the manhole cover to help with project planning and ensure that the manhole cover is easy and correct to install on the drainage ditch. There are three main aspects related to the dimensions or size of the manhole cover that affect and can be used as a reference in the ease of installation. What exactly are those three things? Here’s the discussion.
1. Dimensions of the inner frame hole
The size of the hole in the inner frame is critical because it affects the amount of water that can enter and the ease of routine maintenance during drain cleaning. The inner frame hole must be the same size as or larger than the drain hole so that the access hole in the drainage channel is completely open. Because there is a concrete foundation underneath, the frame will be stronger at this size. As a result, ensure that the size of the drainage ditch or channel hole matches the size of this inner frame’s hole.
2. Dimensions on the outer frame
This measure is intended to anticipate if the concrete is placed prior to the installation of the manhole covers so that there is a tolerance limit for placing the concrete. Because the hole for inserting this frame is frequently smaller than the size of the outer frame. As a result, some of the concrete must be removed to allow the manhole covers frame to enter. We can anticipate work that shouldn’t need to be done by knowing the size of this outer frame.
3. The size of the manhole cover lids
These manhole covers must be larger in size than the drain treatment hole. Because the opening is only limited to the size of the cover, it will be less efficient with a large canal treatment hole if the manhole covers are smaller.
So, those are the three critical aspects of manhole cover dimensions that must be considered when planning your project in order to avoid additional work that should not be required.
