What exactly are watertight manhole covers? What projects will require it? Here is the complete discussion.
Manhole covers or drain covers, which are typically installed on roadside sidewalks or inside buildings, are very common. The manhole covers feature a logo and name motif that serves as the company, building, and city’s identity.
When selecting a manhole cover, keep in mind the conditions of the project where the manhole cover will be installed. There are places where a watertight manhole cover is required, and places where a standard or non-tight manhole cover is required. The designs of the two types of manhole covers are clearly distinct. Here’s the distinction:
First, the watertight manhole cover uses gaskets to keep air or gas from leaking out of the duct and water from infiltrating. In comparison, gaskets are not used on standard manhole covers. Between the frame and the cover, the gasket is installed. According to the design of the manhole cover, the gasket used is in the form of a ring.
Second, the difference from the hook hole makes opening and closing the manhole cover easier. Hook holes come in a variety of shapes and sizes. There are various shapes such as round, square, rectangular, semicircular, and so on.
The hook hole design that is tightly closed at the bottom is appropriate for a watertight manhole cover. For example, a semicircular hook hole that is tightly closed at the bottom. In terms of standard manhole covers, some have a hook hole design that is closed underneath, while others are open directly to the channel. The purpose of the open hook hole is to allow water on the surface of the cover to enter the water channel directly.
You can determine and select the manhole cover design required for the project site based on the two differences mentioned above. Whether a watertight manhole cover or a non-watertight manhole cover is required.
So, where exactly do you need watertight manhole covers?
1. The location within the building
If you are going to use a manhole cover inside a building, such as a hotel, office, or mall, you will need a watertight manhole cover so that the smell from inside the sewer does not leak and can be smelled by visitors.
2. Fire-prone areas
Following that are fire-prone areas, such as public fueling stations and power plants. Manhole covers are used in outdoor areas of gas stations to cover underground fuel tanks (buried tanks/stock tanks). To improve security and prevent leakage, a watertight manhole cover is used.
A watertight manhole cover is also required in the power plant area to protect the electric lines. A watertight manhole cover is used to prevent water from leaking into the electricity cable line. Underground cable lines are common in large cities in developed countries. To be more secure, the underground cable channel also requires a watertight manhole cover.
3. Site of wastewater treatment
Third, a wastewater treatment (WWTP) channel necessitates a watertight manhole cover. WWTP treats domestic or industrial wastewater so that it can be reused, does not pollute the environment when disposed of in the river, and does not kill the river’s biota.
Sewerage stinks, so a watertight manhole cover is required to prevent the odor from escaping and polluting the environment.
So far, we’ve discussed the design differences between a watertight manhole cover and a standard manhole cover as well as the recommended locations for using watertight manhole covers. You can also consult with the Infiniferro Team directly about the design of the manhole cover to meet the project’s requirements.

I’m looking for a watertight chamber cover approx 700 mm x700 mm for over a borehole in the driveway which has electrics installed.
